Sacramento River delta Historical Society

UPCOMING EVENTS

Delta Family History Day
Saturday, March 21 | 11:00 am – 3:00 pm
Jean Harvie Community Center
14273 River Road, Walnut Grove, CA 95690

Every family has a story. Every photograph holds a memory. Every kitchen table has heard
history being told.

Join the Sacramento River Delta Historical Society for a hands-on, welcoming community day
designed to help you preserve and share your family’s history.
Bring your family photographs and flat paper treasures — letters, programs, certificates,
newspaper clippings — and we will digitize them on site. You keep your originals. We’ll create a
digital copy and record the names, places, dates, and stories that give them meaning. Together,
we are building a richer, more inclusive history of the Delta — one family at a time.
Visit our Family Story Station, where you can record a short memory about your family, your
neighborhood, or a place you love. Volunteers will guide you with a few simple questions. No
pressure. Just conversation.

Stop by the Scrapbook Memory Station, a creative space for all ages. Make a one-page
memory, family timeline, or place-based reflection. Supplies provided. Leave with a keepsake —
and inspiration to continue preserving your history at home.
History doesn’t only live in archives.
It lives in your photographs.
It lives in your voice.
It lives in your hands.

If you have a story to tell or images you’d like to digitize, we hope you’ll join us. All ages
welcome — and especially encouraged.
We can’t wait to see you there.

Sacramento River Delta Historical Society
Annual Members Meeting & Potluck
Wednesday, May 21 | 6:00 p.m.

On Wednesday, May 21, the Sacramento River Delta Historical Society will hold its Annual
Members Meeting — and as always, we’re gathering around a table.

This year’s theme:
“From Field to Fork: Delta Foodways & Family Stories.”

The Delta has always been a place where food tells the story — pears and asparagus, tomatoes
and sugar beets, fish from the river, backyard gardens, cannery lines, farm kitchens, and roadside
cafés. Behind every crop harvested, every crate shipped, every meal served, there are families.

We invite you to bring:
 A dish connected to your Delta roots
 A family recipe (written or remembered)
 A story about someone who grew, harvested, packed, processed, transported, cooked, or
served food in the Delta
 A photograph, menu, ledger, or artifact that helps tell that story

This will be an evening of sharing — not just food, but memory. We’ll set aside time for brief
storytelling, recipe exchanges, and conversation. If you prefer to simply listen and enjoy, that’s
welcome too.

In addition to the potluck and program, we will conduct the official business of the Society,
including the election of new board members and officers. Your participation matters — this is
your historical society.

Whether your family arrived in the Delta generations ago or you’ve recently found your way to
its story, come join us. Bring a dish. Bring a memory. Bring a friend.
Let’s celebrate the people who fed the Delta — and the Delta that fed us.
